A Maritime Memories
Voyage of Discovery 2-Page 14
ALMERIA, Spain |

On our way to Almeria the ship was faced with a sudden emergency as one of our passengers, Robert, had been taken very ill. His condition was such that the Captain called for a helicopter to take him to the nearest hospital on the mainland,. This was a problem, however, because the ship was out of the helicopter's operating range so we did a sharp turn and headed for Alicante in order to meet the helicopter within its safe limit. We duly met the helicopter, as can be seen below, and after a crewman was lowered to the deck of Discovery, Robert was winched up and aboard the helicopter and taken to Alicante hospital. About a couple of hours later our Captain came on the air and announced that Robert had reached hospital and that he was now out of danger. Anne and I found Almeria an interesting place, but we were totally stunned when we went to the Alhambra Palace. What a fantastic place and so full of history. We liked Cadiz as well, and that proved to be an interesting city and worthy of more time to look around. |
